📍 600 Block of Court Street Port Allen, LA
A potentially serious house fire was averted Monday evening thanks to the sharp observation and fast action of Cpl. Latrese Darden and Ofc. Kajian Clark, a recent hire with the Port Allen Police Department.
The two officers were conducting a routine shift change in the parking lot of The PoBoy House when they noticed smoke coming from the attic vents of a home across the street at 607 Court Street, near the Port Allen Post Office.
They immediately notified emergency services. Sgt. Alaric Celestine and Ofc. Kevin Bergeron also responded to assist.
According to Deputy Fire Chief James Hartley, the smoke was caused by an overheating attic fan. Thanks to the officers’ early alert, fire crews arrived on scene before flames could develop, ultimately saving the home.No injuries were reported.
However, around 7:30 PM, the fire rekindled after the homeowners reportedly turned the attic fan back on, despite the earlier incident. Fire crews returned to the scene, and the fire department has since pulled the home’s electric meter to prevent any further hazard.
