Community event promises “fun-filled color flying day” with activities for all ages
The West Baton Rouge Parish Library will transform into a vibrant celebration Saturday, September 20th, as families gather for the inaugural Family Color Run—a free community event featuring face painting, snowcones, outdoor games, and of course, plenty of colorful powder.
The day begins with check-in at 8:30 AM at the main library location, followed by a pre-race warmup at 9:20 AM. The color run officially starts at 9:30 AM and concludes at 10:30 AM, with an after-color party continuing until 10:45 AM.
Color Stations Throughout the Course
Participants will experience multiple color stations along the route, each offering different colored powder to create the signature rainbow effect that makes color runs memorable. The first 160 people to check in will receive complimentary snowcone tickets, with water, Powerade, and light snacks available for free while supplies last.
Thanks to generous donations from local businesses including Coca-Cola, Benedetto’s Market, Rouses Markets, and Po-Folks Fruits & Vegetables, the library can offer these refreshments at no cost to participants. S.A.B.S Snowball Shoppe will have additional snacks available for purchase for those still hungry after the complimentary offerings.
After-Color Party and Vendors
Following the run, families can enjoy the After-Color Party featuring vendor booths, photo opportunities, and additional outdoor activities. Vendors will be available from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, giving families plenty of time to browse local businesses and services.
The event showcases partnerships with several community organizations, including Peace, Love & HAPPINESS Coach Sha’s Bootcamp, FloSteppaz line dance group, and Shrimp Man food truck, creating a true community celebration.
Registration and Preparation
While the event is free, the library encourages early registration through their website to help with planning. Participants should wear white attire and prepare for a fun-filled morning of physical activity and colorful powder.
The library recommends bringing the whole family, as activities are designed for all ages. Participants should also consider bringing water bottles and sunscreen for the outdoor activities.
Community Partnership
This event represents the West Baton Rouge Parish Library’s commitment to providing diverse programming that brings families together while promoting physical activity and community engagement. The collaboration with local businesses and organizations demonstrates the strong partnerships that make such events possible.
Library Director Tammy Martin has emphasized the library’s role in offering more than traditional services, and events like the Family Color Run exemplify this expanded community mission.
