Brusly High wrestler Iranie Harrison recognized for groundbreaking achievements
July 16, 2025 – West Baton Rouge Parish
The West Baton Rouge Parish School Board celebrated a historic achievement Wednesday night, honoring Brusly High School wrestler Iranie Harrison for her unprecedented success on the mat.
Harrison, competing in the 185-pound division, earned recognition as a two-time city champion and two-time first team All-Metro selection. Most significantly, she became the first LHSAA-sanctioned girls state wrestling champion in school history.
While Harrison had previously won state titles, this year marked the first time girls wrestling received official sanction from the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, making her the official “first” state champion for the program.
“Coach Bible’s been at Brusly a long time,” Principal Mr. Lemoine explained during the recognition ceremony. “He started a new program. It’s not easy – I’m referring to a girls program. Coach Bible’s kind of one of the leaders to getting girls wrestling to be sanctioned by the LHSAA.”
The wrestling program’s success is supported by Head Coach Jimmy Bible and assistant coaches Stefan Bergeron, Garrett Couvillon, Beret Sanchez, Chris Couty, and Noah Landry.
Harrison’s achievements extended beyond Louisiana borders this summer when she represented Team Louisiana at the national competition in Indianapolis, showcasing her skills against top wrestlers from across the country.
The recognition highlights Brusly High School’s commitment to expanding athletic opportunities and the success of programs that give all students chances to excel.
Board members presented Harrison with a certificate of recognition as her family and coaches looked on proudly.
“Very, very proud of you,” Superintendent Dr. Chandler Smith told Harrison during the ceremony.
Harrison has one more year of high school wrestling ahead of her.
She was:
- City champion (2-time champ)
- 1st team All-Metro Selection (2-time selection)
- LHSAA State Champion (2-time State Champ)

- Louisiana national team representative in Indianapolis this summer
Congratulations Iranie!!! We are all proud of you!!
