On this Fourth of July, we celebrate the freedoms that make our nation great and the principles that guide our work here at WBR Independent.
248 years ago, our founders declared that governments derive their power from the consent of the governed. Today, that principle lives on in every city council meeting, every parish council session, and every moment when citizens hold their leaders accountable.
As we gather with family and friends todayโwhether at backyard barbecues, community celebrations, or watching fireworks light up the Louisiana skyโwe’re reminded that freedom isn’t free. It requires active participation, tough questions, and citizens who care enough to stay informed about the decisions that shape our communities.
From Port Allen to Addis, from Brusly to every corner of our parish, the spirit of independence thrives when we engage with our local government, support our neighbors, and work together to build stronger communities.
To our veterans, our first responders, and all who serve our community: thank you for your dedication to the principles we celebrate today.
To our readers: thank you for believing that local journalism matters and that accountability starts right here at home.
Enjoy the holiday, stay safe, and rememberโfreedom rings loudest when we all do our part to keep it alive.
Happy Independence Day from all of us at WBR Independent.
